There's much which could fill this space today (and probably should ahead of accusations of noxious substances pouring from one political leader to another), but I just can't resist taking a run at this one.
Michael Ignatieff announced in Calgary that Canadians "can smell the whiff of sulphur" emanating from Prime Minister Stephen Harper?
A devilishly unclever moment for Mr. Ignatieff.
I may be able to speak for a Canadian voter or two if I suggest to Mr. Ignatieff that whiff may just be coming off his own leadership.
That's not to suggest Mr. Ignatieff is the only source of gaseous expulsions as far as political elites are concerned. A significant percentage of Canadians if asked, might just concur on the point that any sulpherous analogy to Mr. Satan is spread fairly evenly throughout the political sphere.
What our political 'managers' should by now understand, yet almosty mysteriously fail to, is that their messaging in which they regardless of party affiliation purport to speak on behalf of "Canadians" is falling on deaf ears.
How often have you reacted negatively on air with me to a rep of the Conservatives, Liberals and NDP claiming to speak for Canadians?
If any party truly spoke for Canadians, if any party spoke for more than 40% of Canadian voters that political party would lead a majority government. As it is, the scramble for seats in parliament invariably is ungainly, uneven and unappealing. When approximately 60% of those eligible to exercise their franchise and vote do so and when any would-be governing party is unable to secure the confidence of 40%+ of that 60%, how much more evidence is required to demonstrate the general unhappiness "Canadians" feel toward their would-be governors?
True enough, the Bloc Quebecois siphons a significant percentage of Quebec votes, but to hang the repetition of minority governments on that peg is nonsense. Just two federal elections past Mr. Harper's Conservatives made inroads on BQ territory which they then managed to virtually immediately cede again to Gilles Duceppe and his separatists. Some strategy that was.
Negative advertising by federal political leaders has become a most unwelcome virtual art form between and during election campaigns. Now a desperate federal Liberal leader feels it necessary to create a sly or perhaps more accurately juvenile image of Stephen Harper as a Satanic presence in the PMO? His would be Clint Eastwood persona of not so long ago, as goofy as it was, was more appealing.
There's a reason you're so low in the public opinion polls Mr. Ignatieff. One you've underscored yet again. You're making Stephen Harper's job easier. Realize that?

Nano-thermite or "super thermite" is classed as an explosive. A mixture of thermite and sulfur produces thermate which lowers the melting point of the iron it contacts when reacting by forming a eutectic system. This is useful in cutting through steel.

Re Michael Ignatieff claiming Harper smells like a whiff of sulpher, Ignatieff has always had a very bad nose for just about everything. That's why he will never be leader.
